Sacred Heart University alumna Pam Pillo, who formerly served as executive director of graduate admissions, is returning to Sacred Heart to assume the role of executive director of undergraduate admissions. With more than 10 years of professional experience in higher education and an extensive student recruitment background, Pillo, a Monroe resident, will be responsible for planning, directing and coordinating admissions activities to advance SHU’s mission and enrollment goals.
For the first time in Sacred Heart University history, the college known for having the happiest students and a strong commitment to community service was elevated to the national listing of U.S.News & World Report’s Best Colleges. According to the U.S.News website, “schools in the National Universities category offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus masters and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates.” While Sacred Heart has been thriving and growing for the last 56 years, ranking on this list of the most prestigious national universities is evidence that the once commuter school has arrived on the national higher education scene.
Ten years ago, construction concluded on one of Sacred Heart University’s most beautiful and welcoming facilities, the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The University will celebrate the chapel’s 10th anniversary with yearlong festivities, the first of which will take place Sept. 18 with special guests Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Papal Nuncio (the pope’s representative to the United States). The nuncio will preside at a chapel rededication liturgy at 2 p.m., followed by a youth festival for the entire SHU community.
